A Train Ride to History & Quarry Walk
To accompany your visit to the Ecclesbourne Valley railway, why not enjoy a leisurely walk along the remnants of the old Cromford and High Peak Railway by following our 'Train Ride to History & Quarry Walk'.
The walk will take you along a guided trail, accompanied by several interpretation boards explaining the history of quarrying in Wirksworth and the transportation of stone.
A free leaflet explaining the guided walk is available in the Information Room at Wirksworth Station.
There are also interpretation boards at all of the EVR stations explaining each station’s history.
Enhancing the experience, along your walk you will have the chance to visit other attractions such as the 'National Stone Centre', the 'Steeple Grange Light Railway' and the 'Middleton Top Countryside Centre'.
And, to continue your walk further from Wirksworth station, on certain days you could also include a ride behind one of our steam locomotives on the famous Ravenstor Incline, taking you all the way up to Ravenstor Station.
